At first when I just started blogging I thought that I don’t have time to read and comment other blogs. I was thinking.. why should I ever bother and do others a favor when instead I could be writing a post for my own blog? But I found that I was very wrong about all this commenting thing. Now I will tell you why! 4 major benefits of commenting other blogs are…
Every time you leave a comment you:
1. Learn something new. To leave a comment you can’t just open a post, scroll down to the end and write “oh, what a great post, thanks Mr. John”. Ok, maybe you can, but I think that this kind of comments are nothing but a spam, not giving any additional value to the post itself. I take some time and leave at least 2 comments everyday and I noticed how much I improve on the subject I comment on. It’s not only educational but makes you know whats hot and new in the blogosphere.
2. Get a backlink and increase your rating in google. Yep, thats the best part of leaving a comment, just make sure “nofollow” is turned off, and the blog is following you. More and more blogs follow this “movement” and install Comment Luv, Keyword Luv plugins, that gives us an opportunity to get very good backlinks that are counted by google and increase your rating. And one great free tip here! In the “name” field enter something like “mr my main keyword”, for us it would be “mr make money”.
The funny thing is that last month we left ~80 comments on other blogs with a nickname “Gino J” and now when I do a search in Google for “Gino J” our blog appears in the first page! It shows how this commenting strategy is effective when you need to promote certain keywords. Sadly we absolutely didn’t want to promote Gino J nickname and waisted our time.

3. Make yourself visible in the community. It is very likely that when you leave a comment on other blog, the author of this blog will visit your site and in addition people who read the comments may also visit your blog. You get noticed, and who knows, all kind of possibilities may come to you, maybe some great link exchange, maybe partnership and etc. At least you can get back a comment on one of your posts from the author of the blog you commented on.
4. Say “thank you” to the author. Do you like writing posts and get zero comments? It may seem that you write for yourself. So begin from yourself and start saying “thank you” to other bloggers. Take just a few seconds and show that you value their job. The other day they will thank you.
And now at the end of this post I want to quote one person who gave me some good advice about commenting, it is worth another post actually (I put in a picture, because we don’t want to have duplicate content)

Plan: to make one million dollars at home
Who: Tom and Gino
When: at most 2 years
How: combining all possible ways to earn money online into one big money stream
What else: writing about internet millionaires and ways to make money online
Project launch date: 1st of June 2008
Status: $6.81
Just a note on that - if the blogs you are commenting on have Keyword Luv turned on, you don’t even have to give yourself a Mr [blank] nickname - you can be Tom@mortgage interest rates. No more impersonal comments!
Hi Tom,
You’re right, leaving comments is almost essential to getting a blog “found”.
I stress that to my readers, and the great thing about commenting on other blogs is that you become a part of the community. And soon, as more people start commenting on your blog, another community forms.
I love how that works.
And in case I forgot to tell you, thank you for commenting on my blog.
Hi Barbara,
thanks for your comment too! It’s a great example how comments work - you came here to comment, because I left a comment on your blog. Now that I see your comment here I might also visit your site again and maybe leave another one.
Hi,
The comment stratagy does work, I certainly dont post around 80 a month lol i wish i had the time, but even 5 - 10 a month will show improvement.
regards
Lee
Hi Lee, it may seem that it’s a lot of, but actually its just 2 comments a day for me and my colleague. So.. 30 days x (2+2) = 120 comments.
I can only really manage around 5 a day that’s with a full time day job. That takes me a good hour to read the article and compose a reply.
I spend probably a little more time surfing than I do writing my own posts. Some of the pro-bloggers are starting to email me and that’s nice as they seem to be a pretty decent group (so far).
I just downloaded KeywordLuv and I have CommentLuv already installed. Just great stuff guys. Now I am just starting out but this IS fun! Thank you Tom, your post had some nice meat on the bones.
Tell me why you don’t have ads on your blog.
Hi Gert,
thanks for your comment!
It’s just not worth it putting the ads and ruining the overall look of your blog just for a few dollars. This is a new blog and it has to grow up for the ads. Nevertheless, we are currently working on other experimental project where we put our ads on, but for now we wanna keep our main blog clean and ads-free.
Btw I looked at your blog and I see that you are only starting out too. Keep on working! Some tips for you: 1) I think that you should get rid of that empty space between right column widget and the main body
2) install “All in One SEO Pack” plugin, because i noticed you don’t have meta descriptions for your pages
3) related posts plugin..
4) popularity contest..
Check our post on “9 must have Wordpress plugins”, maybe you’ll find things you need.
Your comment about leaving your say on other peoples blogs not only give you a back link, it also lets other bloggers know that you are reading their blogs also. You have a really nice site and your tips are awesome, will have to keep coming back. Good luck!
For those that haven’t checked - this blog uses “no-follow”. At the time of this entry (July-21) there were 26 no follow outgoing links from this page.
Funny for an article on the benefits of getting comentary from users!
Thomas it was a secret! Now you’ve ruined everything.. We didn’t turn of “nofollow” because we were afraid of negative SEO effects, for example linking to some bad sites. Of course you can filter out bad sites by checking them yourself, and maybe I should really turn on the do-follow
I’m just testing CommentLuv plugin..
Interesting, amazing, wonderfull thingss last blog post..Funny Signs
