Chitika shows false impression number?

We’ve successfully registered on Chitika about six days ago and I was very happy that we would finally start making more money from our project villageofjoy.com. I was playing around with all the possible Chitika settings and was quite confident that this system will work. Just before adding the necessary ad code into the website I checked online forums for more info about this system. What I found was many complains about low payouts and other problems, nevertheless I thought I’ll give it a try.

After five days of using Chitika on villageofjoy.com I got 0 clicks and google analytics shows 1827 unique visitors. What is really strange that chitika actually shows only 297 impressions from supported countries. Well, O.K. you may say that only 297 of my visitors were from supported countries, but how come google analytics shows that ~70% of my visitors are from USA, and that’s 1245. So it basically means that at least 1000 impressions are missing. Our Adsense impressions are quite accurate with the google analytics data.

Maybe I got something wrong, maybe It’s due to some smart Chitika calculations that I’m not aware of? I don’t want to mislead you so I’m asking you to share your stories and correct me if I’m wrong.

  1. Hey Tom - this is Ryan Travis from Chitika.

We actually have 3 types of offers that come through some of our ad units. In our eMiniMalls and MPU’s, you might see CPC, CPM, or CPA offers.

When we report on these, we report impressions for all CPC and CPM offers, but NOT for CPA. We will only show impressions/clicks for CPA offers if your user actually purchases something (and earns you revenue).

Generally, we will ALWAYS show CPC offers to US search engine traffic, and CPA for non-search (unless you have opted-in to our CPM Graphic ads program).

Hope this clears things up a bit.

  2. Hello. If you have deployed our *Premium* ads you should know that they will only serve to US visitors coming to your site from a search engine (Google, MSN, or Yahoo). Based upon the limited information in your note above, I cannot say for certain that this what is occurring but that is my strong suspicion. Let me know if I can be of assistance.

  3. Wow, that was a fast reply, I’m impressed! And thank you Ryan for clearing things up.
I guess chitika is best for websites who write about all kind of gadgets, because all I saw was Ipod ads.

  4. After being very impressed with the first reply from Chitika I get another one.. Well people you are crazy, you have a super support. Thank you Jeff.

I have to admit that it was my mistake for not giving enough time to read all the rules of your programs, I thought your system worked just like Adsense and compared your and adsense impressions.
